I’m the adviser of The Blackman Voice. My hobbies include reading, traveling, biking, hiking, and photography. I love mystery movies and rom coms. My current favorite shows are Murdoch Mysteries, The Rookie, SEAL Team, and Blue Bloods, but I also love watching reruns of MASH and Bones. My music taste is diverse, but my absolute go-to is 70s-90s hard rock, like Boston, Van Halen, Aerosmith, Def Leppard, and Journey. My nephews are my favorite people! I love watching them play sports, traveling with them, or just hanging out with them. Also, I’m still best friends with my best friends from ELEMENTARY school! I have taught English from 7th grade to college sophomores, and I now teach psychology and journalism. My goal for this school year is to be healthier, and I want to get to know more of my students well compared to last year. My goal for The Blackman Voice is to be more organized on the newspaper staff.

Last, but not least, the place where I got the opportunity to help others, express myself, and work with amazing journalists. The Blackman Voice helped me make my ideas come true and together worked to start the Spanish edition of the newspaper, with the hope that in the future more students take the chance of getting involved, sharing their stories, and making history. This group of amazing people has done so much for me during my senior year, and I feel highly grateful to all of them because of their contributions to my professional and personal growth. Without their support, this article would not have been possible.

Downtown Murfreesboro is a fun place to visit thats in our hometown. This is the historic courthouse clock. Take a walk around the historic scenery, drop into Country Gourmet for some excellent chocolate truffles, and then grab a bite to eat at Marinas or Domenicos for a little Italian flair, followed by the nana pudding ice cream at Hattie Janes!

Spring day trips for a stay-cation

Foster Falls in Tracy City is a short hike down a steep, rocky trail and across a wooden bridge. Its so peaceful that if youre there during the week, pack your lunch, bring a hammock, and take a nap or read a book to the sound of a waterfall. If you are into more historic dining, head to Tracy City and experience their 100+ year old Dutch Maid Bakery. Get the cookies --- you cant go wrong, though the ginger cookies and the M & Ms sugar cookies are certainly favorites!

Fiery Gizzard Trail in Tracy City is part of the network of trails on the Cumberland Plateau. If you go, be sure to wear sturdy footwear or bring hiking poles as the trail is rocky in some places. Make sure you look for the bridge with Robert Frost quoted on it! At the end of a long hike, stopping at Mountain Goat Market in Monteagle is a must! Gourmet pizza and sandwiches and to die for treats will replenish your energy.

Rock Island State Park in McMinnville offers hiking trails with gorgeous waterfalls and a swimming beach. While it is a little chilly for swimming on spring break, its a great place for sand volleyball, having a picnic, or launching a kayak or canoe.

Old Stone Fort State Park is a hiking trail in Manchester. This photo was taken in the winter, so in the spring, after a heavy rain, the falls are even more beautiful. Just be sure to wear good footwear!

North Murfreesboro Greenway has a pretty trail to walk. Obviously, this is in the fall, but the blooming trees and flowers in spring are equally pretty!

Southridge Trailhead at the Murfreesboro Greenway is a scenic trail to visit. Make sure to go after a heavy rain if you want to see the river at its best! Lots of great spring flowers, too (not pictured).
