Week one of the NFL season kicked off this past weekend, and it did not disappoint. There were multiple great games that came down to the wire. Here is a quick recap of the opening week.
The season started with a Thursday night game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles. The game had a rain delay and the Eagles were able to hold on to get a 24-20 win. Cowboys star receiver Ceedee Lamb struggled late in the game where he had three drops.
Then on Friday night, the Chargers were able to beat the Chiefs 27-21 with an impressive performance by Justin Herbert.
Sunday started with a bang as the first touchdown of the day was a 50-yard catch and run from Bijan Robinson to give the Falcons an early lead over the Buccaneers. Despite this, the Bucs were able to win this game 23-20 after the Falcons missed a game tying kick.
The surprise of the week came early when the Colts absolutely slaughtered the Dolphins 33-8.
Senior Peyton Huff said,” Daniel Jones was pretty impressive; fantastic game from a guy people wrote off.”
The Steelers and the Jets had a great game that the Steelers were able to win 34-32. Despite the loss, Justin Fields had an impressive day with two rushing touchdowns, but the veteran Aaron Rodgers four touchdown passes were the difference.
The Titans had a rough week one against the Broncos. They had 131 yards in penalties which is two less yards than their offense had. And multiple drops on good throws in the last five minutes from Calvin Ridley and Chig Okonkwo did not help either. The Broncos, whos offense did not look good, was able to escape with a 20-12 win. Good news for the Titans is that Cam Ward looked promising.
“Cam Ward made some tough throws most definitely, but I am not quite sold on him yet. He holds on to the ball too long, but the receivers and offensive line were no help,” said senior Marcus Massengale.
The Packers destroyed the Lions 27-13. Although the score does not show a blowout the Lions could not get anything going all game as the Packers defense dominated.
A potential game of the year happened on Sunday night football. Two powerhouses in the Ravens and Bills played and it did not disappoint. The ravens were up 15 in the fourth quarter, but Josh Allen had a total of 247 yards in the fourth quarter alone to lead the bills to a 41-40 win over the Ravens.
“Josh Allen looks like the real deal,” said Huff.
The week ended with a division matchup between the Chicago Bears and the Minnesota Vikings. The Bears started out hot and went into halftime up 17-6. But in the second half JJ McCarthy led his team to victory as the Vikings won 27-24.
