Zohran Kwame Mamdani was elected as the new mayor of one of the largest cities in the United States on Nov. 4, 2025, during the NYC mayoral election. Running against Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa, Mamdani took the stands, winning the hearts of New Yorkers at the age of 34. 

Mamdani’s campaign revolved around an ambitious and progressive policy platform aimed at reorganizing wealth, expanding public services, transforming urban areas, freezing rent, creating affordable homes, making buses fast and free, providing universal free childcare, and improving safety on the streets and subways. 

Mamdani’s main goal is to help the people of New York live better and safer lives.

The city is pretty broken in terms of crime and problems, and he is a fresh new face for the city. He is young compared to the usual politicians and brings new ideas that an older generation of politicians couldn’t bring. He also steered away from the typical campaign and did most of his work online. He brought in a new generation of voters that wouldn’t normally have voted. Even though he isn’t as experienced, the past regime wasn’t working, and it was time for a change.” 

However, it’s not only his goals that people fall in love with, but also his colorful, social media-powered campaign that took the world by storm. “He is new and fresh,” said a New Yorker. Junior Isabela Pessanha stated, “I personally think it is amazing for the city of New York. His work on social programs, increasing universal childcare, and permanently free city buses for the city is just incredible. Also, as a city that supports a lot of hard work and freedom, his policies and points of view will be very appreciated by the citizens.” 

Overall, Zohran Mamdani is a character, always full of life and always smiling. He always makes time to visit small local businesses and makes sure to volunteer to help the community in any way possible.
