The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Texas Rangers faced off in a best of seven series to compete in the World Series Championship. On Nov. 1 the Texas Rangers came out victorious during game five.
This is the first time the Texas Rangers have ever won a World Series title, leaving five remaining teams, the Colorado Rockies, Milwaukee Brewers, San Diego Padres, Seattle Mariners and Tampa Bay Rays, who have never won the title in the dust.
The first two games in the series were played at Globe Life Field (the Ranger’s home field) where both teams won a game and were split into a tie. The Rangers won the next three games and became World Series Champions.
In the last game of the series, the Rangers shutout (not letting the opposing team score a run) the Diamondbacks. At the end of the game the scoreboard read 5- Rangers, 0- Diamondbacks.
During the playoffs, the Rangers won against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Baltimore Orioles, and the Houston Astros.
The Texas Rangers named Shortstop Corey Seager the “Most Valuable Player” (MVP). Making this his second World Series MVP title. In the first couple innings of game five, the Rangers were not producing anything offensively.
In comes Corey Seager scoring the go ahead run on a base hit by Mitch Garver, putting the Rangers in the lead. Seager has become the fourth player to earn two World Series MVPs in Major League Baseball (MLB).
He played a huge role in the playoffs this year and even during the regular season, he has amassed 19 playoff home runs, which puts him in second place for playoff homeruns in the post-season for a shortstop.
“It truly is incredible. But it’s not just me, man. What this team did and how we competed and all the guys in their rallying, we don’t really have one leader. That whole clubhouse is leadership,” Seager said.
In the ninth inning the Rangers scored four more runs that all went unanswered.
The Rangers have appeared in the World Series twice before, in 2010 and 2011, losing both times in seven games. This is a huge milestone for the Rangers Franchise.
The Rangers also set a record of winning 11 straight away games during the post season, making them the team with the longest road streak in the MLB during the post-season.
The Diamondbacks have only one World Series title. They won back in 2001 and have not appeared in the World Series until this year. Although they did not win the World Series, they had to beat out teams such as the Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Philadelphia Phillies.
Zac Gallen was the starting pitcher for the Diamondbacks in Game five of the World Series. He kept the Diamondbacks in the game carrying out a no-hitter for six innings. This was not enough to keep the Rangers from clinching the championship.
The 2023 season of the MLB has officially come to a close. The Rangers are now the defending World Series Champions.
