The Blackman Voice is currently hiring for our 2018-19 staff. We are looking for hardworking, energetic, creative, enthusiastic young people who are team players.

Current openings are:

News Editor (1)

• Assists the editors in coming up with and assigning news stories
• Assists reporters in locating sources, finding an angle to the story, etc.
• Fact checks all articles before they move through the editing process
• Edits all articles for number of quotes, length, interest
• Responsible for maintaining breaking news section
• Writes two in-depth news articles per month
• Develops relationships with the administrators
• Takes over for a reporter in an unexpected extended absence

Sports Editor (1)

• Assists the editors in coming up with and assigning sports stories
• Assists reporters in locating sources, finding an angle to the story, etc.
• Fact checks all articles before they move through the editing process
• Edits all articles for number of quotes, length, interest
• Makes sure sports scores are updated regularly
• Writes two in depth sports articles per month
• Develops a relationship with the Athletic Director
• Takes over for a reporter in an unexpected extended absence

Sports Reporters (4+)

• Reports on Blackman sports, athletic training, and other activities related to sports
• Takes his/her own photos if possible
• Attends games related to assigned sports
• Develops relationships with the coaches in their assigned sports
• Maintains sports scores for their assigned sports

News Reporters       (4+)

• Reports on Blackman news and other news (state, local, national)
• Takes his/her own photos if possible
• Attends events related to assignments
• Develops relationships with an assigned administrator or counselor
• Maintains updated list of clubs, activities, etc. to use for articles

Lifestyles Reporters (1+)

• Reports on lifestyles ideas that will interest Blackman students
• Writes reviews and special interest pieces.
• Takes his/her own photos if possible
• Attends events related to assignments (if BHS event, we will try to get a pass.)
• Develops relationships with the arts teachers and club sponsors
• Maintains updated list of clubs, activities, etc. to use for articles

Business/Marketing Assistant(s) (1-2)

• Assists in ALL business-related tasks and marketing tasks as needed
• Makes calls/visits to local businesses to secure advertisers and sponsors
• Writes thank you letter to all businesses
• Reports to the business manager and the marketing manager
• Helps plans fundraisers and contests

Marketing Manager (1)

• Designs and implements main hallway bulletin board with Public Relations Coordinator (weekly)
• Sets up fundraisers with community businesses
• Contacts teachers and admin on a regular basis to share what is occurring at blackmanvoice.net
• Manages staff fundraisers
• Assists the business manager in making contacts for sponsorships and advertising
• Establishes the monthly photo/video contest rules, deadlines, themes, etc. with the photo editor
• Selects promo materials for business (pens, etc.)
