Seven Silly Sports to Conquer the Spring Break Blues

It still looks like winter outside most days, but we’re in March now, getting ready for March Madness, the Ides of March, March winds, and yes, spring break. What do you do when you have three weeks before the last bell of the day to indicate spring break has finally sprung?

Chilly, damp winter weather doesn’t always make people think about sports. Some would much rather sit indoors and curl up with a blanket while watching Netflix. But these silly sports will make you even more ready for springtime and spring break to arrive!

  1. Underwater basket weaving- Alright, this isn’t a real one, but you could definitely try to practice once your pool opens up.
  2. Dryland dogsledding- Perfect sport for the dog lovers that live in Tennessee during the winter. A lack of snow won’t keep you from mushing like the Eskimos.
  3. Iceblocking- This IS a real activity. Get yourself a block of ice, a hill, an opponent, and you’ve got the perfect pastime.
  4. Cheeserolling- It’s just what it sounds like. You have a huge round of cheese, roll it down a hill, and try to manage keeping both the cheese and yourself upright. If your mom won’t let you use a cheese round, then get one of Dad’s spare tires from the garage and paint it yellowish-orange.
  5. Icicle Fencing- Ice is more common in Tennessee than snow is, even in March. Grab one from your tree, and pretend you’re a Fencing Benson.
  6. Elephant Polo- If you happen to be in India or Sri Lanka, this is the perfect sport for you. Polo on elephants makes it a lot more exciting to watch. Maybe the Nashville Zoo would be up for a match if you can’t travel so far.
  7. Ferret legging- This is the ultimate endurance test: ferrets are trapped in the trousers of the participant. If you don’t have a ferret, use your younger sibling’s gerbil or guinea pig.
