From being just a new book published to a now best-selling book turned into a movie, “It Ends with Us” by Colleen Hoover is a great story containing romance and hardships such as domestic and emotional abuse.
As the book was originally published on Feb. 29, 2016, there was a long wait as the fans wanted to see it turn into a live action film. On Aug. 9, 2024, nearly eight years later, the movie had finally come out. After the movie aired, the franchise of “It Ends with Us” grossed over $50 million on its opening weekend, Newsweek reported. It had repopulated its fame after years of the book had come out prior.
But critics may wonder, how do the book and movie compare to one another? Obviously, movies won’t capture most as they only last a couple of hours themselves, but viewers can imagine it more visually.
While in books, they can last hundreds, maybe even thousands of pages; however, books interpret stories in their own ways. Both movies and books will always have differences and similarities regarding anything related to the storyline.
“I didn’t like how they left out important factors that were in the book that added more suspense to the story,” junior Carlos Sobalvarro claimed when asked about the movie.
There are many diversities of opinions regarding “It Ends with Us” as many people have either read the book or watched the movies, or both. Which comes to the debate, is reading and watching both versions necessary?
“I feel like viewers who haven’t read the book and are only relying on the actors’ portrayal of the characters, aren’t getting the full experience,” junior Aiylora Bennett commented.
Even though people debated on which one is better, both had an accurate representation of toxic relationships and the continuation of a cycle. It shares an important message about those situations and highlights what is happening in today’s world of marriages and relationships.
Another commenter, sophomore Eshaal Sulemon said, “I loved the movie, I think it was a good representation of toxic relationships and it really shared the message.”
When viewing only one of the versions, you won’t get both total versions of the story both visually and descriptively as they are both different but similar in many ways, however, opinions may differ. Overall, both versions of “It Ends with Us” are amazing and must be added onto your must read/must watch list! To do so, “It Ends with Us” is now available in theaters and can be found in your nearest bookstores!
