The Puppy Bowl is a counterprogram of the real Super Bowl. This is where puppies will play on a miniature football field where there are toys scattered on the field and whenever a pup brings a toy to the endzone, they get a touchdown. There is also a referee that makes the calls and cleans up accidents produced by the dogs.
To begin, the Puppy Bowl was founded in 2005 by Harry Kalas. Currently, there are 131 puppies participating. The Puppy Bowl gives football lovers (or people who just love dogs) a fun reason to watch dogs in cute outfits play with toys and be affectionate.
This isn’t the only thing the Puppy Bowl does, it also sends the message to people to encourage them to adopt pets. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Animal Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), approximately 390,000 shelter dogs are euthanized, and 2 million shelter dogs are adopted each year. What is better than a show that brings joy and homes to pups?
“The puppies are adorable and watching them play around brings lots of entertainment and I hope they have great homes,” commented junior Brayden Flanagan.
Furthermore, you cannot forget about the halftime show. There are cats that will appear to replicate the special halftime show that occurs during the Super Bowl. It is very iconic and a creative way to catch the audience’s attention.
Speaking of the audience, some people even argue that the Puppy Bowl is better than the Super Bowl.
“It’s better than football! I love watching it!” stated senior Kyndal Hostettler. Football isn’t for everyone, but the Puppy Bowl can be a great alternative.
For some they may be asking themselves, who is the latest winner of the Puppy Bowl? Most recently, in 2023, the winners of the Puppy Bowl were Team Fluff. They overcame some hardships and beat the most popular and frequent winners: Team Ruff. They fought hard for their position as champions through endless hours of playing and chewing on their toys. Only time will tell who will win 2024’s Puppy Bowl.
The Puppy Bowl altogether is an adorable show to watch broadcasted everywhere on Super Bowl Sunday. You can watch the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet and many other viewing sources. No matter if you love football, puppies or both you can support the wonderful pups every year during Super Bowl Sunday!
