With rumors of a Next-Gen Console being just around the corner, it is no surprise that Nintendo would rely heavily on remakes and remasters for the final stretch of the Nintendo Switch’s life span. However, fans could not have expected three different Mario games to get full remasters, with updated graphics and added features. Here are the games that are being remastered:
1.) Mario vs. Donkey Kong
Fans are going bananas over the announcement of “Mario vs. Donkey Kong,” originally released on the Game Boy Advance system. In this puzzle-platformer game, it’s up to Mario to recover the mini-Mario toys stolen by Donkey Kong. The remake is adding two new elements that were not included in the original game. The first is a handstand jump, which allows Mario to reach platforms just out of reach. The second is the option to play with a friend in local co-op mode. These new additions will surely spark a new interest for both new and returning fans of the series. “Mario vs. Donkey Kong” launches for the Nintendo Switch Feb. 16, 2024.
2.) Super Mario RPG
Revealed earlier this year, “Super Mario RPG” has retro and modern gamers alike hyped for this remake. With its impressive visuals, iconic characters, and story-driven narrative, Super Mario RPG was an instant classic on Super Nintendo Entertainment System. In this updated version of the game, the player can damage all enemies at once if they time their attacks perfectly. This new feature has caused mixed reactions among fans of the game. While some view its inclusion as harmless, others argue that it will take away from the difficulty that made the original game so enjoyable. None the less, there’s no denying the impact this announcement has had on Mario fans. Gamers are getting ready to jump back into the adventure when “Super Mario RPG” is released on Nov. 17.
3.) Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
Considered to be the best game in the Paper Mario series, “Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door” has fans losing their minds over the announcement of a full remake. Widely popular during the GameCube era, “The Thousand-Year Door” is a role-playing game with other game elements, such as turn-based combat. With its compelling story and charming art style, it’s no wonder why this game was a massive success when it was first released. Dedicated fans of the game have compared the recent trailer to the original game and have noticed slight improvements and changes within the updated version. No major differences have been discovered; however, the subtle changes to cutscenes and character designs may imply that there will be added content in the remake. Regardless, fans can hardly contain their excitement about their childhood game being given new life on the Nintendo Switch System. “Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door” is set to release in 2024, more than likely within the first half of the year.
All games are rated E for Everyone.
