Blackman High School Presents: You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown

Drama is performing a production of the musical You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown on Thursday, March 9th, at 10:00 A.M. for all grade levels. Tickets will be on sale before school and during lunch on Wednesday for $6.00 per person.

The cast and stage workers have been practicing and preparing for the show’s opening since late November.

“Since [the play] is getting closer, we have been practicing pretty much everyday. There’s a lot of work that goes into it, and there’s a lot of stuff that the actors don’t do like set design, painting, lights. It’s really a teamwork kind of thing,” said junior Kayla Zuck who plays Lucy Van Pelt. .

This was the first play that drama instructor Sherry Febles directed fourteen years ago when she started here at Blackman High School.

“It’s a fun show. It’s a family show. I love the messages that it conveys to the audience. It speaks,” said Febles.

Febles believes that the arts are an important part of every child’s life. Her hope for this production is that students will see it and discover a new creative outlet.

“We push data and we push AP’s, and high ACT scores, and please don’t get me wrong, all of that is important. but [Mr. Holland’s Opus (1999) suggests] ‘if you continue to take away the arts, with kids you may teach them how to write, but pretty soon, they won’t have anything to write about’. Meaning they do not develop those creative skills that they need, and we are not fostering that,” States Febles.

Based on the comic strip Peanuts, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown opens with a school performance on March 9th.

The musical is open to the public at 7:00 p.m. from March 9th-11th and will wrap up with a Sunday afternoon matinee at 2:00 p.m.
