Unicef: United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund
Key Club is proud to announce our annual contribution to the organization of UNICEF, the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund. This organization is an incredible opportunity for both the contributors and contributees; and the best thing about it is, you can get involved along with everyone else! Here is a breakdown of the organization and Blackman’s involvment:
What is it? More than the obvious name, UNICEF helps to ensure child rights as well as providing heath care, immunization, nutrition, access to safe water and sanitation services, basic education, protection, and emergency relief to those in suffering countries.
When is it? During the month of October, Key Club puts out UNICEF boxes in classrooms for first period to collect money in. Classrooms compete to see who can raise the most money, and the winning class at the end of the collection gets donuts! On October 29, Key Clubbers go out dressed in their Halloween costumes and “Trick or Treat” for the organization; we go around neighborhoods and ask for donations to help raise both money and awareness.
Where is it? UNICEF serves more than 190 countries, territories, and areas through country programs and National Committees.
Why was UNICEF initially started? The organization was created on December 11, 1946, to provide emergency food and healthcare to children in countries that had been devastated by WWII.
