Memorable High School Moments
With most classrooms forming a routine throughout the months of August and September, it’s refreshing when a completely random event interrupts a classroom’s routine. Below are a handful of memorable moments that took place during class, and caused anything from a burst of laughter to gasps of surprise.
During 2nd period in the first semester of this year, Michele Giacobbi, government teacher, choked on a cookie she was eating during class.
“I thought she was just having a coughing fit or something, until I looked over and she’s holding her throat. She managed to get ‘help’ out, and everyone was just frozen,” said Bailey Spangler, senior.
Austin Forsberg, senior, leapt over his desk to the front of the room, where he performed the Heimlich maneuver on the choking teacher.
“I jumped across some desks, got behind her, and told her that I was going to perform the Heimlich. She nodded her head, and some other kids went to go get help,” said Forsberg.
The shocking event ended with Mark Meshotto, one of Blackman’s SROs, coming in the room. Fortunately, Giacobbi survived the incident.
“The cookie was never found,” said Forsberg.
Joy Wilson, calculus and physics teacher, has been at Blackman for over eight years, so it is only to be expected that she has stories to share. Despite not being in the classroom, Wilson described a unique senior prank.
“They set up all the library books, so that when the door was opened they would fall over—like dominos—all over the library,” said Wilson.
Though clever, this senior prank caused some controversy and got several students in trouble because it messed up the library’s inventory.
“I thought it was actually a good senior prank, and [the librarian] was livid.”
Wilson also shared some hilariously shocking pep rally moments, including a skit by the junior class based on the movie 300.
Four shirtless students came out carrying a piece of plywood. Standing on top of the piece of wood was another student, dressed as King Leonidas, a character from the movie. Below, a student dressed to represent the school Blackman was playing against that night was cheering.
“[The King] jumped off the platform, which was about 6 ½ half feet up in the air, and body slammed the other guy to the ground, which was part of the skit,” said Wilson.
Now, there is a rule that students must stay in dress code for skits during pep rallies.
For students who are tired of the same routine, remember that anything can happen. You may be in the room when the next crazy high school moment goes down.
