STUCO Hosts Blood Drive
On October 27th, the Student Council teamed up with the Red Cross to organize another blood drive at Blackman High School. Students were welcome to come and donate a pint of blood in exchange for the warm feeling of helping others.
Blood donors missed at least a class or two and had to undergo a careful process to give blood safely.
“They put the cleaning stuff on my arm and had me squeeze a tiny football. Then, they put the needle in my arm and just had me lay down the whole time,” said Julia Beasley, senior.
For some students, however, the road of giving blood sometimes came with some bumps.
“I got sat down and they took the blood out of my arm . . .and eventually the blood stopped flowing in my arm… because they took too much,” said Madeline Perry, junior. “When they took the tube out, my blood got on the floor.”
After students were done giving blood, they were offered drinks and snacks.
“They offered me stuff to drink . . .while I was laying there. Afterwards, I got to go to a little area and get snacks and they made sure I didn’t pass out or anything,” said Beasley.
Overall, the blood drive was a success. For students who plan to give blood in the future, remember to follow the procedures given by the nurses and other staff to ensure that you donate safely.
