Marvel Rivals is a 6v6 hero shooter that was released on Dec. 6. It was made by NetEase Games and it hit the gaming community by storm. Through the first two months of its release, it hit a record high of 664k concurrent players. The game was released on Ps5, Xbox Series, X/S and PC. Making the game easy to play with friends as it is cross-platform.
The game has 35 characters you can play as, with even more coming soon. It has characters from both the movies and comics, with well-known and lesser-known characters such as Jeff the Land Shark, or Magik. The game separates characters into 3 different types:
- Vanguards are the more tank-based characters such as Hulk or Captain America. These are the characters that are in the front lines, taking as much damage as possible to make sure their team doesn’t. They push the team towards the objective.
- Duelists are more damage focused characters such as Spiderman or Wolverine who are meant to take fights and damage characters to get pick of the enemy team.
- Strategists are healers or support characters such as Rocket the Racoon or Loki. They are meant to help the team by healing or boosting their team’s damage output and making sure they don’t die.
“I like playing Sue Storm because of her invisibility gives her the ability for sneak attacks and great escapes, plus she’s a very good support class.” Freshman Natalie White commented.
A main concept of the game is the team up abilities that boost characters when they have other certain characters on the team, such as Hulk and Iron Man where Hulk boosts Iron Man giving him a damage boost and changing his Armor Overdrive ability to Gamma Overdrive allowing him to deal more damage. Making it so that he has bigger blasts of energy to shoot.
The game has been a lot of fun while playing both by myself and with friends. There have been a multitude of things that many others and I have found fun about the game.
“I like it, makes me feel heroic,’ Freshman Kai Mount said.
