Spirit Week is a great way to not only come together as a school, but also show appreciation. Blackman does many spirit weeks throughout the year such as: Vanderbilt cancer awareness, Home Coming week, Toys for Tots, and Senior week. For these weeks, our student council comes together to plan out five days of school appropriate ideas.
For the week of Sept. 16-20, Blackman High School participated in a school-wide spirit week to spread awareness and held a donation drive. The themes were as follows:
Monday was wild west, Tuesday was pajama day, Wednesday was twin/group day, Thursday was superhero and Friday was going gold.
On Monday, students and faculty were given the option of wearing things like cowboy boots, flannel shirts, bell bottoms or boot cut pants and big belt buckles.
Keileigh Fort, senior, was asked why she dressed up and she said, “I don’t know, I just wanted to wear boots and flannel.”
On Wednesday, students ran around the hallways in their matching outfits with various accessories, characters, themes, and colors.
Senior Quincy Dismore on the topic said, “I think twin day is fun. It is a fun way for friend groups to match at school.”
Then on Thursday, the theme was set as Superheroes. Not many kids dressed up, but the ones that were went as sidekicks, villains, antiheros, and everything else in between.
Finally, on Friday, the theme was gold as the color of the ribbon for childhood cancer is gold. People were decked out in gold capes, gold makeup, and even gold accessories.
As the week closes, the themes come and go as students dress up to not only spread awareness, but also show a sense of community.
