Blackman High School offers a variety of ways to get involved and show Blackman Pride. Activities range from sports to clubs to community service. Blackman offers 51 clubs and activities.
“It is so boring to not be involved,” says senior Blackman student Ellie Sugden-Kundar. She is involved in the Blaze Band, track and field, JROTC, Mu Alpha Theta, National Honors Society, Key Club and Blackman Collegiate Academy. She notes that being involved is a great way to meet new people, gain new friends, and make connections with people. Being involved makes Sugden-Kundar very happy. She stated, “being involved makes you feel complete.” Through being involved, she has gained new experiences and friends. Being involved opens doors you otherwise may not get.
“It’s kind of lame to not be involved,” says senior Blackman student Annabelle Whitaker. She is involved in theatre, choir, musical theatre, International Thespian Society, Blaze Buddies, National Honor Society and Drama Club. She said being involved gives you a sense of pride. It is a great way to make connections with those inside of the school but also those outside. “It’s also just fun!” to be involved she added. Being involved can fuel the desire for fun. While school is all about academics, being involved in something unrelated to academics can have more impact in your time in school to make the most of what you have.
There are clubs for all. Blackman has fine arts clubs, sports clubs, language clubs, community service clubs and scholarly clubs. Blackman has clubs and activities to make sure that every student can have a place and get involved to enjoy their four years in high school.
Both interviews from Sugden-Kundar and Whitaker show the importance of involvement to make the most of your time in high school. Both mentioned the amazing social component that comes with being involved in extracurricular activities. Making friends is one of the ways to enjoy your high school career and getting yourself in clubs is a sure way to do so.
Do you want to branch out and try new things? The Blackman Club Fair during all four lunches is another way to get involved. This allows you to see all that Blackman offers and get details about things you are interested in.
Think of your interests and hobbies you enjoy doing in your free time, chances are there is a club for it with people who enjoy it just as much as you!
To find a list of all the activities and their sponsors, go to the Blackman website, then go to the student tab, then clubs and activities and see which one’s interest you.
Make the most of your high school years and get involved!
