One of the pieces in Fabber’s “Monster Girls in Media” collection.

Fabber’s work in progress.

Madison Fabber, senior, is one of the up and coming artists from Blackman High School. Her work has been a big part of her life, and hopefully her career. She’s done many projects, such as a mural in the Special Education classroom, which she considers a “success,” and a mural in the Library.

Fabber considers her style of art to be “surrealistic, colorful, [and] otherworldly.” Her style is her own, and you can definitely see that in her work.

“As cheesy as it sounds, I’ve been drawing for as long as I remember! I think I really started getting serious about it and looking at art as a potential career since about 3rd or 4th grade because my childhood best friend and I were always drawing and doodling together, and we’d talk about being artists when we grew up,” stated Fabber.

Fabber has dabbled with many styles, considering how long she’s been doing it, so she’s experienced a lot.

“Experimenting with styles is one of my favorite parts of art! I’m constantly practicing with elements of other styles that I enjoy and trying to incorporate and make them my own, so they fit in with my own style.”

As she finishes high school, she says she’s thinking about going to college to earn a bachelor’s in either art or art history. Whatever she chooses to do, though, she would like to sell her art or do freelance stuff.

“I think having to push yourself out of your comfort zone is the hardest part of art for me. I’m always tempted to do similar poses in the same medium, but I know I’m not going to grow as much as I want to if I don’t force myself to try new techniques, new styles, new poses, and the like. Also, coming up with new ideas can be really hard as well!”

Take her advice. Art won’t be easy, and it takes some learning, but after seeing her achievements, anyone can see that the hard work pays off. It also helps to get inspiration from other artists’ art.

“For classic artists, I really love Van Gogh and Salvador Dali. I also get a lot of inspiration from artists I follow on Instagram, like Ashleigh Izienicki (@missupacey) , Audra Auclair (@audraauclair), Alythuh Art (@alythuh), and Lydia Fenwick (@lyfeillustration)!” said Fabber.

Although Madison likely has a lot to work on in the future, but she currently has a few projects to focus on.

One of her projects is her mural in the library, something that both of the librarians are very impressed by.

“Madi is very talented. My favorite [part of the mural] is The Great Gatsby. We really appreciate her doing it and we are so greatfull Madi brought Zach Adams’ (former Blackman Student) design to life,” says Misti Jenkins, librarian.

Not only was this challenging for her art wise, but it was also physically demaning.

“One of the things that surprised me the most about the project was how physical it was to paint the wall, and it did not dawn on me until I realized she was using a ladder and going up and down and stretching [herself]. When she was done, she said she was physically tired. That’s something I didn’t consider, and it made me appreciate it even more,” proudly stated Brian Seadorf, librarian.

When she’s not painting the school walls, she also has assignments for her classes.

“For AP Studio Art, my concentration is on Monster Girls in Media, so basically I get to draw a ton of female monsters and add lettering and other elements to make the pieces resemble movie posters! Right now, I’m working on a ghoul, and I think I want to do a siren or something similar next.”

Definitely sounds like a signature Madison Fabber work, and I’m sure a lot of people are looking forward to seeing what she will come out with next!
