Basketball Cheer brought home their FIRST first place trophy in the Non-tumbling Division.

On Saturday, November 11th, the football coed cheerleading team and the basketball cheerleading team both earned first place trophies in the TSSAA State Cheerleading Competition.

After three years of competing, the varsity basketball cheerleading team finally placed first place in the Non-tumbling Division.

“We had to compete against 12 other great teams across the state. With cheer you have two and half minutes on the mat. If you don’t make everything in those two and a half minutes, it’s not going be your day. But it was our day and we hit everything and we walked away with the first-place win” stated basketball cheer coach, Erica Griggs.

“This season we had all first-place wins even at state. Last year, we got fourth place but we moved up three places to first place,” stated sophomore Pam Adams.

“It was a really great experience to win first place in all of our competition including state, I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us and to cheer with these girls for basketball season” stated junior Cam Pea.

The football coed team got their 1st place win in the small coed division. This is the teams 11th win at the TSSAA State Cheerleading Competition.

“We scored pretty well this week we have improved our score ever competition so that’s been a goal that we’ve had and that we’ve accomplished this far and so we’ll continue as we work towards nationals to try and improve our score each time, but I was very pleased with their improvement” stated varsity coed coach, Courtney Gregory.

“We had 4 or 5 people out, which is a big deal. We had to replace them the day before. We still went out and hit all of our stunts except one and still came out with a first-place victory,” stated senior Kaeli Dorsey.

Dorsey, Skylar Pitman, and senior Hanna Hicks have participated on the varsity coed team for four years.

“Winning state this weekend was a great opportunity to prepare for nationals, so hopefully, we will be back to claim our title again,” stated senior Skylar Pitman.

Stay tuned for the varsity coed team going to nationals, and catch the basketball cheerleaders at the next varsity home game!
