80s Movie Greatness
The Princess Bride is a movie about “fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles.” It was released on September 25, 1987.
It’s based on the book of the same name. It stars Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Wallace Shawn and more. Overall, it’s a funny take on the normal fairy tale movie.
Labyrinth, released June 27, 1986, stars David Bowie as the main villain. This movie is about goblins stealing a girl’s little brother and her adventures through traps and puzzles to get him back.
It uses puppetry for the majority of the characters, and some of them look either really silly or even a little bit terrifying. This movie is worth watching just for David Bowie’s performance. If you enjoy weird movies, this is a must watch.
The Never Ending Story was released July 20, 1984. This movie also uses puppets, a common theme in 80’s movies because of the popularity of Jim Henson, creator of The Muppets.
It is also based on a book of the same name about a boy getting into a fantasy world and trying to save it from being eaten by The Nothing, an unknown dark threat to the world of Fantasia.
These are just some of the movies one can find. If you are more about special effects, then these won’t be for you, but if you want a ridiculous and fun story, you will enjoy these kinds of movies.
