Blaze Baseball: Regular Season Champs

UPDATE 5/19/2017 — HEADED TO STATE!

Blackman’s baseball team is currently in the middle of a successful 2016-17 campaign. They boast an overall record of 24-12 and a district record of 15-4. Just this past Tuesday, they clinched the division title with an 11-1 victory over Riverdale.

“Being district champs is just a small part of what we want to accomplish,” stated Jacob Jones. Jones, a senior, was on the mound for a complete game victory when the Blaze took down the Warriors.

By winning the district outright, the Blaze secured themselves an automatic bid for the regional semifinals. Their opponent is yet to be determined. But the team is ready for whatever comes their way.

“My expectations are that we take each day for what it is and play good baseball,” stated head coach Justin Entrekin.

Moving forward, Blackman will need contributions from all its players to be successful, but there are a few key players to keep an eye on.

“DJ Wright is currently team’s leading hitter and pitcher. The keys for us moving forward are the guys hitting in front and behind him. Zavien Lindsey, Michael Dimartino, Peyton Milam, Connor Williamson are all going to have to do their part to get on base, advance runners with positive outs, and really dial into having quality at-bats, regardless if they get hits or not,” stated Entrekin.

Stay tuned to find out how the Blaze fare in regional play!
