Blackman Blood Saves Lives

On Friday, February 4th, Blackman High School hosted its second blood drive of the school year.

Sponsored by our Student Council, the Red Cross set up in the auxiliary gymnasium and students volunteered to donate blood. The students in Student Council helped assist with the blood drive by giving donors snacks, drinks, and working the registration table.

“It was really eye opening to see how many people from my school were willing to save innocent lives just be donating blood,” stated Student Council member Cody Ramangkoun, senior.

Students who were 16 and 17 were able to donate with parent permission. Students over 18 were able to do it without. Some students donated their blood for the first time.

“It was weird having a needle in my arm, but I knew it was for a good cause,” said Gaige Davis, sophomore.

The goal for Student Council was to have at least 50 students participate, but they exceeded their goal. On just one day at BHS, 75 students donated their blood.

A veteran donator, senior Ashley Anderson, offers some words of wisdom.

“I think donating blood is really important. It can be really nerve-racking and painful but at the end of the day it’s worth it. But whatever you do, don’t stare at the needle,” said Ashley Anderson, senior.

Blackman wrestling coach and Physical Education teacher Ronnie Bray contributes his part to the blood drive.
