Save Money By Thrifting
Have you ever gone shopping with the intent to buy a new outfit and realized how pricey retail stores can be? Retail stores can be overpriced, and you end up breaking your budget after only buying three items.
The solution for this is simple: shop at thrift stores or secondhand stores. These stores have many options to choose from all while saving money.
“I shop at thrift stores because it’s cheaper, and you get the same quality clothes,” said Brenda Ochoa, junior.
One of my favorite stores to get clothes from is Goodwill. Goodwill is my holy grail when it comes to finding comfy t-shirts and even name brand clothes. The best part is most shirts are around $3, so there’s no worry about overspending.
My favorite local Goodwill stores are the ones located on Church St. and Memorial. These locations always have a wide variety to choose from. You can almost always find what you’re looking for.
Another great option to get clothes from is Walmart. Walmart has many options for clothing that are pretty cheap too. If you don’t care about name brands, this is just the place for you.
While those stores are some pretty big names, there are also local thrift stores that aren’t as popular, but still have great options. One of my favorite local thrift stores is Southern Thrift located off of Charlotte Ave. in Nashville.
I myself have found brands like Champion and Nautica at this store. Another example is Dirt Cheap, which sells brand-name clothing at a discounted price.
Even the Blackman staff spends their spare time thrifting.
“One time I bought some beautiful Michael Kors shoes for $10! They still had the price tag on them! I’ve also been able to find designer purses, and clothes for really good prices,” said Geneva Cook, English teacher.
All of these stores have great options for prices that won’t make your jaw drop when you look at the tag. Why spend $20 on a shirt that you could just turn around and possibly find for $5 at a thrift store? Take a day to explore all of these stores. You may be surprised by what you find.
