Album Review: Blonde

After four years, Frank Ocean has finally returned to the music scene with a new album Blonde. The album shows a more honest version of Frank and is authentic with the audience. It is his second studio album and includes 17 songs.

The first song that stands out is the first song on the album “Nikes.” This song is about how people only care about money and fame. It’s about staying true to yourself and being real with other people. Frank does not want to be associated with people who are famous for their material goods; he just wants real and honest people. He sees fame and fortune as devils and demons. This song is one of my favorites because the lyrics really stand out to me. It’s an  honest song that you rarely see from an artist.

Another song that struck my attention is the ninth song on the album. “Nights” is about how he has lost his trust for many people. He has been betrayed and does not feel like building up those friendships again. I really like this song because it’s smooth, has a nice beat, and it’s different from most songs out right now.

Of the seventeen songs on the album, “White Ferrari” is probably one of the most popular amongst fans. Frank uses this album to talk about his life problems and issues going on in the world, but he also uses this song to bring peace to the album. It’s about the relationship between him and his significant other. He talks about how he has all of these internal conflicts and losses of friends and family, but he still lives life in a positive way and continues to move forward.

This album is one of the most albums that I have heard in awhile. It talks about genuine problems happening in the world and in his life that are relatable to most people no matter what age. All of the songs are different and are something you definitely won’t be hearing from any other artist for a while.

For our younger audience, Frank Ocean’s Blonde does come with a Parental Advisory– Explicit Content label.
