HIP TEEN SLANGGG
Throughout every generation, teenagers have always found a way to cultivate their own unique language. The use of extremely informal expressions and acronyms are now known as “slang terms”.
Joshua Davidson, sophomore, states that, “Slang terms have been used throughout the world for nearly as long as language has existed. Current slang words across languages maybe impactful now but no more than it has ever been.”
Slang terms are impactful due to the fact that particular slang pertaining to a certain generation allows teenagers to gain self-confidence, a sense of identity, and a reason to create bonds with his or her fellow peers. Teenagers may not be allowed to vote, stay out past curfew, or wear animal tails to school, but they sure can speak slang.
In this generation, many slang terms are influenced by social media and through text messages. Social media sites, such as Twitter and Urbandictionary, play a major role in developing new slang terms daily. Many slang terms cannot be found in the dictionary, therefore a list of slang terms can be found below. FYI, they may become out-of-date once you finish!
