Candle Wishes is a non-profit organization with a Christian base. The founder, Jenny Williams, created the organization to fulfill the birthday wishes of underprivileged children in Tennessee. Williams’ inspiration for Candle Wishes was born out of her experience in an Angel Tree program. She noticed the struggle that some parents had in providing gifts for their children and felt moved to help.

“I knew the children’s birthdays would be a similar struggle and wanted to do something to help,” Williams’s stated.

Candle Wishes was founded in 2002, although their first year to serve the children of the community was in 2003. The organization will be celebrating a 15 year anniversary in 2017.

This nonprofit is largely run by volunteers. Seeing their hard work manifest itself into smiles and excited faces is what rewards the Candle Wishes team. Williams’s also expressed that her perspective of her work with the children has grown because she is now a mother.

“Now, I also see the relief on the faces of the parents knowing they no longer need to worry and stress over not being able to give their child a happy birthday. It’s truly a gift to get to work with these families,” said Williams’s.

Brighter candles, bigger smiles, and a broader network of communities are all seen vividly in the vision Williams has for Candle Wishes. Anything from church ministries to housing communities can work to expand the ideologies of Candle Wishes.

“There are so many possibilities, which is exciting,” expressed Williams.
