Snazzy Senior Scholarships

Senior year is quickly ending, and college is right around the corner. Several seniors received generous scholarships to pursue their educational goals. Some seniors with cool opportunities include:

  • Amy Tran, senior, who received a Navy ROTC scholarship to Penn State University for $180,000 over four years. She plans on becoming a nuclear engineer. Several factors helped Tran get this scholarship, including the fact that she was already planning on going into the navy without the scholarship.

“Me being a female and having diversity helped me out a lot,” said Tran. In addition, academic success helps. Tran scored a 28 on the ACT and takes several AP classes.

  • David Paredes, senior, who plans to attend Tennessee Technological University in the fall. He will receive $16,000 a year from the university, which is near the cost of attendance. He will be studying Mechanical Engineering.

“I have two sisters and they’re about to go in college, so my parents would have to pay three times for college. Having scholarships is important,” said Paredes. His scholarships were awarded based on ACT scores, GPA, and extracurricular activities. Paredes is involved in five clubs. He scored a 31 on the ACT, and he is one of Blackman’s valedictorians.

  • Morgan Fabber, senior, who received a full tuition scholarship to Vanderbilt University. The scholarship includes a stipend for studying abroad or researching. She is considering majoring in chemistry, biology, or neuroscience, and minoring in vocal performance.

“[The scholarship will give me a] summer study abroad. It’s just something I’ve wanted to do but I wouldn’t have been able to do,” said Fabber. She is considering studying in Italy or France.

Fabber is also valedictorian, and she is involved in Blackman’s choir. She also takes several AP classes.

All of these seniors have worked hard and are being awarded for their accomplishments, and they give Blackman a reason to be proud.
